Roman Numeral Date Plaque


Great idea for a wedding, anniversary, baby or any date you want to remember.  I've used some lumber for a nice chunky surface.  I hand painted the board a cottage cream color and used black for the roman numerals.  I also used a glazing technique and distressed it for an aged look.

The numbers in this example say "April 19, 2003".   April = IV, 19 = XIX and 2003 = MMIII.

New paintings


Found some canvases in my art supply and decided to paint some happy desserts on them!  All are hand painted on 8x10 canvases with acrylic paints. Swirls, polkadots and cake ... a few of my favorite things!

Organizing Craft Supplies - Before & After

I've been wanting to consolidate and organize my crafting supplies for quite some time now. Having no direction or plan, I have stared at my craft closet for hours wondering how to get started, what kind of storage containers to get, etc. Finally, one night last week I just started collecting all my crafty odds and ends which I had stored in plastic bags and stashed in several places...it was a start!

After a trip to Hobby Lobby for some plastic storage bins, I feel much  more organized...

AFTER



I also purchased some square flat storage containers from Dollar Tree to store my stamp collection...and yes, these will get pretty labels once I get everything done!

My desk also got some organization after I popped the lid off another container...


My mixed media/game pieces found a new home in some glass jars I wasn't using.  Now they sit on the media cabinet as decoration in the game room until I need them...


And finally, I gathered all the ribbon pieces and put them in a glass jar that was just collecting dust.  Now I can see just what I need ... but don't look too close, there is still some mess on the shelf that needs organizing.  But I'm off to a good start, right?!?

Flags from Wood Scraps


I recently created a few patriotic boards using leftover scrap wood from previous projects.   I used acrylic paint (cream, cardinal red and navy blue) and then a tinted wash technique so they look aged.  Finally, I sanded the edges for a distressed look.  

Here they are with some handpainted softballs and nesting boxes...

More Original Subway Kitchen Art


I'm currently working on a whole series of original subway wall art for kitchens.  I made this one on 11x14 stretched canvas, and I plan to do a much larger version as well.   This artwork was created with cream and cardinal red acrylic paints, with a brown wash technique and distressed edges to make it look aged.  Available this week on my Ebay.

Craigslist Red Dresser - Before and After


I bought this red dresser on Craigslist several months ago.  I just recently changed the hardware to give it just a bit more character.  Each knob is different ... a zebra stripe, a letter Z, a clockface with Roman numerals, a checkered pattern, a polkadot pattern and a fleur-de-lis.

I found all the knobs at Hobby Lobby, and purchased them when they were 50% off.  Our surname starts with a Z, which wasn't available.  So I bought an N and turned it sideways.  Can you tell?!

I'm still deciding whether or not I want to add a 1, 2 and 3 (using house numbers) on the drawers.  What do you think?

Subway Kitchen Art


I love all the subway art I'm seeing in blogland.  I did one for my kitchen last week, and I'm pleased with the results.  Of course, it just makes me want to do more...
