There’s something about my husband and garage sales. When I go to garage sales, there is no furniture to be had. When he goes, he brings home all sorts of great furniture items at rock bottom prices.
A few weeks ago, he came home with a beat up looking wine rack, and we’ve given it new life with a little elbow grease and Annie Sloan chalk paint.
It was pretty rough to start with….
With its fair share of dings and scratches…
It was another great candidate for a chalk paint makeover. One of the most enticing aspects of using Annie Sloan’s chalk paint is the idea of no prepping. Just wipe down the furniture and go. No sanding and furniture stripping necessary.
After a coat of Charcoal chalk paint, the wine rack started to look much better…
Chalk paint is fantastic to work with when you want to distress a piece of furniture. It’s not chalkboard paint, it’s chalk paint. It’s very easy to use, dries super fast, and distresses like a powder.
No picture of the original top, but it was faded and scratched, and in need of restoring. If you aren’t familiar with Restor-A-Finish, it does just what it says. Just rub on furniture, wipe off, and it restores the original finish.
It really makes your tired furniture look new again…
Once we were done, we gave it a coat of clear wax to seal and protect. We used Fiddes & Sons, which is recommended for chalk paint.
Looking forward to putting this on Craiglist and seeing what happens…
Still working on a garage sale dresser makeover. Stay tuned!
